Charlie is a force free IMDT qualified trainer at Royvon who specialises in adolescent dogs. She is passionate about using play and fun to motivate and to build confidence. Charlie teaches life skills like loose lead walking, recall, focus, self control and calm behaviour by breaking it all down into games which promote the skills necessary for the dog to succeed. This makes learning fun, easy and enjoyable for both owners and dogs.
“My favourite part of training is finding a dogs motivation and utilising their genetic and individual skills. Coming up with exercises and play that provide appropriate outlets for their breed and desires is so rewarding, it’s incredibly beneficial for the dog and it creates a fantastic relationship with the owner.”
Whilst Charlie works with a wide variety of breeds, the top 3 breeds she works with at Royvon are
Collies
German Shepherds
Cocker Spaniels
She owns Boxer x American Bulldog and has a Doberman in the family which has given her first hand experience in active, working breeds and how important it is to provide appropriate simulation and activity. This also means she has a soft spot for working, sporting and bull breeds that match her energy and enthusiasm!
Charlie originally worked with the care team for over a year, spending the majority of her time exercising and playing with with the dogs in our care, which taught her a lot about body language and dog communication. Realising her dedication and enthusiasm for training she was soon recruited full time onto the training team.
Charlie has studied canine care, behaviour, psychology and puppies extensively, receiving distinction grades in Canine Care and Behaviour and Canine Psychology. She has passed her IMDT Assessment with a distinction and continues to improve her education through courses and workshops.
Starting as a puppy trainer, she knows the importance of teaching positive behaviours and good manners as soon as possible. Charlie knows that fun learning games, rewarding wanted behaviours and good socialisation from a young age will help them to grow up into confident, motivated and happy dogs.
She believes having both a scientific and compassionate understanding of the dog’s mind and using positive reinforcement that focuses on reward and utilising a dog’s natural instincts, is the key to gaining a strong bond and a mutually beneficial relationship with our dogs.
Whilst Charlie specialises in over excited, job lacking adolescents and young dogs - she also works with reactive and fearful dogs, providing behaviour modification through management, counter conditioning and confidence building skills.
“To be able to make a real positive change in both dogs and owners lives is what inspired me to become a trainer. As a pet owner, I understand how important dogs are to their family. I’m dedicated in teaching enriching and reward based training so that our puppy and dog owners can have the best experience possible with their companion. “
